Our History
The Prince George’s Financial Services Corporation (FSC First) was first founded as a 501 c (3) non-profit corporation. In 1982, the United States Small Business Administration designated the organization as a Certified Development Company (CDC). As a CDC, FSC First is responsible for promoting the availability of SBA and non-SBA economic development financing programs and providing unconventional financing to small and minority-owned businesses in Prince George's County. In July of 2001, the Prince George’s Financial Services Corporation became an autonomous agency funded in part by Prince George’s County. Shelly Gross-Wade was appointed two months later to lead the organization. FSC First restructured the organization in staff in March of 2007 to allow for enhanced customer service and a quicker loan response to borrowers. Why is FSC Different? The Prince George’s Financial Services Corporation is the only Certified Development Corporation authorized to issue both the Small Business Growth Fund loan and SBA 504 commercial loan transaction. FSC is also designated as a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) as designated by U. S. Treasury Department. The FSC has developed local and regional strategic alliances with key economic development agencies and business resource providers who assist in bringing comprehensive resources to their clients, such as management and technical assistance, bonding, and procurement assistance. Our President, Shelly Gross-Wade, participates in the development & implementation of Economic Development strategies for the County through the Government Operations and Environmental Services Group in the County Executive’s Office of the Prince George’s County government. The FSC has a collaborative network within the County Administration that allows us to assist our clients with more than financing, such as permitting issues and site selection.
